As I wrote a post on a recent newborn session, I began to think about the advantages of investing in maternity portraits.
Being a newborn photographer is so much more than merely taking pictures. Each session is important to me. It means that you trust me with your new baby, even if it is only for the short time that I’m in your home.
One of the best ways to build trust before your baby even gets here is with maternity portraits. The main point of a maternity session is to preserve this time in your life. So you can look back at these memories later, remembering the joy and anticipation you had while waiting for the birth of your new baby.
What are some of the benefits of investing in maternity portraits:
As a newborn photographer, I can’t explain what an honor it is to be invited to someone’s home to capture your baby’s earliest memories. But for many of my past clients, they have chosen to also capture the magic of their pregnancy with photos.
Why would this make a difference?
A maternity session sets the stage for the entire portrait experience. That initial meeting is the perfect opportunity for us to get to know one another. We get to know each other during this first meeting, and soon we are chatting about your upcoming new arrival. By the time your session is over, I’m hoping that you won’t feel like you have a stranger entering your home. In turn, this will lead to….
Trust!
Trust is essential to have with anyone, but it is crucial when passing your baby over to someone. Newborn sessions can last anywhere from 2-4 hours. Your photographer will be holding, posing, wrapping, and placing your child into buckets and baskets. What an important responsibility this is to fulfill. You can consider a maternity session as an “audition” of sorts! After the sitting is over, you should ask yourself these questions:
- Am I comfortable with this person?
- Will I trust them with my baby?
- Do I like the images on their website?
- Am I fully satisfied with how my maternity pictures turned out?
