Outdoor Newborn Pictures and Pros and Cons?

Outdoor Newborn Pictures were not really done when I started my photography journey,

At the time, when I took my first classes to learn more about photography, it was mostly studio based information that was being taught. It never crossed my mind to do things any differently.

Now 9 years later, I’m still learning every single day. Growing and trying new things has become a passion of mine. I have learned a lot about taking baby pictures. And I LOVE getting new families out of the house!

This all started with an idea I had a few years ago.

While that idea is still bubbling, it has been put on the back burner for the immediate future. But it led me to do more newborn images outdoors and loving how they came out.

There are a few pros and cons of doing an outdoor session with your new baby, and I want to share all my thoughts with you to make the best decision for you and your family.

Cons-

If you pick a place like a beach or downtown, you will have to travel to that location. Leaving home with a new baby can be challenging and a little stressful, to put it lightly! Packing up and making sure you have everything you need can be a lot with a newborn. But on top of that, we don’t have control over the weather. So we will have to plan around that as best we can. Lastly, after spending 20 minutes getting the baby settled and into a pose, there can be unexpected noise- along comes a loud car to ruin all our hard work?!

Pros-

With that said, I still feel like the pros outway the cons. First, you’re going to get some really unique images. I honestly haven’t seen any other local photographer doing outdoor newborns. So while you will have to leave your home, it will be worth it.

And sometimes we don’t even have to leave your yard if you don’t want to! All the images below were taken in these little one’s landscape; we also took some in the backyard with their willow tree that I love.

Lastly, you might want to get out of your home. Now, I know I said this is a con, but this really can go on the pro side too. You might have a smaller home and don’t know how we would take pictures there. Or you can’t see how you will find time to get the house ready for us to come over (even though this is something that you don’t need to worry about, we won’t see your home in the images). Or maybe you want to get outside for some fresh air!

Perhaps you would like to have some images are taken where you both met, or your favorite park. We can even do some images at home and some at another location; the possibilities are endless.

Here are some of my favorite outdoor newborn pictures that I have taken recently. I need to do more before winter hits!

These are all things we will talk about when we are planning your session. But if you know that you want your images taken outdoors, please let me know! I can’t wait to start planning with you.
